What Are POLQA and MOS?

  • POLQA is a standardized algorithm (ITU-T P.863) used to objectively measure voice call quality over LTE (VoLTE), 5G (VoNR), 3G, and 2G networks. It compares recorded audio with a reference file to generate a POLQA score based on speech clarity.
  • MOS is the Mean Opinion Score, a traditional scale ranging from 1 (Bad) to 5 (Excellent), originally based on human listener feedback. RantCell has developed own algorithms for MOS score models that deliver consistent and repeatable results.

4.5 – 5.0 Excellent (natural and clear voice)
4.0 – 4.5 Very Good (minor distortion)
3.5 – 4.0 Good (noticeable but acceptable)
3.0 – 3.5 Fair (some distortion and artifacts)
2.5 – 3.0 Poor (distorted and less intelligible)
0.0 – 2.5 Bad (severely degraded speech)
